How To Put On And Take Off Your Compression Stockings

by Admin Leave a Comment

Compression-Stockings-Instructions

It may seem deceivingly simple to take your compression stockings on and off, but there is a proper process that must be followed to ensure they last you as long as you need them to.

Putting Them On

  1. Reach into one of the stockings with your palm facing up. Gently grab the fabric just above the heel.
  2. Pull your arm out to separate the leg part of the stocking inside and out. Bring your arm out until your thumb is free.
  3. Stretch your sticking as wide as you can and pull it over for foot and heel.
  4. Hook your heel and turn the stocking right side out.
  5. Slowly release the fabric as you pull it up your calf and to your knee. Keep your heel in place as you do this. Smooth out wrinkles as they appear in the stockings.
  6. Allow 1 to 2 fingers worth of space between your knee bend and the top of your stocking.

Never pull up your stockings when you are wearing them as this can tear the delicate fabric. Do not fold or roll them and do not ever cut loose threads that you find on them. If your stockings become damaged, they need to be replaced in order to continue functioning optimally.

Taking Them Off

  1. Sit down to remove your stockings.
  2. Fold the stocking down until it gets stuck, which is usually right above the ankle.
  3. With your thumb, slowly push your stocking down until it pops off your heel.
  4. Slide it off the rest of your foot.

When putting on and taking off your compression stockings, be sure to wear special rubber gloves and also keep your nails short so you don’t accidental tear the stockings. Make sure to remove your rings so they don’t catch. Socks, shoes, or slippers will help protect the foot end of your stockings and prevent damage.
